Miss Me?

Hey blogland! Did you miss me? Of course I have missed you all dearly, but no worries–I’m back!

Just a warning—this post may be a little incoherent and sort of a downer, so my apologies in advance. I’ll do the food first and then you can just skip my little ramblings at the end!

Breakfast

The usual cereal mix while doing some last minute studying for my Macro-Economic Development midterm.

The exam went pretty well. It was what I expected for the most part and I have kept up with the work throughout the semester and did a lot of studying for it, so I hope it all paid off. It sure was long though and my hand was pretty much ready to fall off by the end!

Lunch

I decided to try out a new twist for my pre-yoga lunch. I had a cinnamon raisin ezek topped with cinnamon raisin pb on one side and a laughing cow on the other. YUM! I loved the sweet/savory combo and it really tasted like a bagel with cream cheese! This is definitely making into my weekly rotation. I also had the last of my frozen mango. I need to buy some more–this stuff is SO. GOOD.

Snack

After yoga I headed over to health services and got a flu shot. My arm is so sore right now, I took 2 advils and it still feels like it’s going to fall off! For some reason I always have really negative reactions to shots–I get super sore and achy and usually get a low fever. Yuck. I’m hoping that I timed it right so that my yuckiness will happen when I’m sleeping and I’ll be good to go tomorrow.

Luckily when I got home I saw a surprise in the mail! A free Kashi Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookie came today! I was so excited and had to try it out for a snack.

My thoughts? AMAZING. So good. I thought this was a great size for the calories (only 130) it was pretty dense and chewy and tasted delicious. It was so good but really satisfying too–I was good after just one (but then again, maybe that’s just because I only had one…) I am absolutely buying a box next time I go to the store!

Dinner

I wasn’t in the mood to cook anything much for dinner tonight so I decided to try and recreate the salad I had at John Harvards the other week. Basically I just put some salad, black beans, and hummus on a plate with pita. It was actually really yummy and ended up being exactly what I was craving. I got new Sabra Hummus with Chipotle and it is AMAZING. Very creamy with a definite kick to it. I’m obsessed.

Dessert

For dessert I had a little bit of chocolate and I’m planning on eating some kettle corn later in the night as I do never-ending work.

Ramblings

This weekend was SO. MUCH. FUN. I always have a great time with Aliza and her family and they honestly are like my ‘2nd family’ It’s really nice having a home-away-from-home because I don’t get to see my actual family nearly as often as I would like. In general I have a really hard time opening up to people and really feeling comfortably being myself, but with Aliza and her family I have definitely found people who really get me, and I am definitely my happiest when I’m around them. As a result, I’m always pretty bummed when I have to leave.

My mood has definitely been on the lousy side today (and yesterday, which is why I didn’t post when I got home). Overall I haven’t had the best college experience, and while this year has been much better than previous ones, I’m still just ready to be done. I’m especially blah right now because I just had 2 really fun weekends but now don’t have anything to look forward to until Thanksgiving which is still SO. FAR. AWAY. And in the meantime I have insane amounts of work which is really hard and definitely stressing me out.

I guess I’m just in a funk that I really need to break out of. Do you ever feel like you are just going through the motions but not really enjoying what you’re doing? I feel like I do the same exact thing every day: wake up, exercise, class, work, sleep. Sometimes this doesn’t bother me as I like to do all of these things, but recently I feel like I’m stuck on a hamster wheel or something. And to top it all off I don’t even get to create great meals or eat interesting, healthy, home-cooked meals. Ugh.

Ok, enough of that. Sorry for the rant, I just needed somewhere to vent.

Now I need to go do some problem sets, finish a paper, and do research galore. Hopefully everyone is having a better day than I am.

Goodnight!

I definitely get it. I feel the same way sometimes, and especially today, so it’s funny that you happened to write that. There is NO doubt that college and work are very trying and it’s hard when you can’t have the things that comfort you most as often as you like.
Have you thought about eating more trail mix? Honestly, it helps me. I’m not kidding. I look forward to it every night.
Let me know if I can do anything to help you. Stay tenacious beautiful girl!
P.S. LOVE THE NEW LOOK OF YOUR BLOG!

    WELCOME BACK, SARAH!!!!

Hooray for the exam going well; a BEYOND fabulous/enjoyable weekend; delicious eats 🙂

Today I’ve been in a “funk” as well – the day has been EXTRA long, stressful, and frustrating 😦 Feel free to vent all you want!! I understand completely!!

Glad you enjoyed your weekend, I’m so glad you are back!!

The last part of your post is verbatim what I have been feeling lately. I don’t know if it’s just from living in the dorm or what, but I too feel like a hamster on a wheel most days. And it does suck to not be able to have mealtimes be enjoyable on top of it all. I haven’t had the best college experience either, and while it’s definitely improving, I do find myself longing for something more. Anyways, I definitely am here for you girl, you are NOT alone! I hope we can get through this “funk” together 🙂

Have a great rest of the week!

I MISSED YOU! so glad to see you back! and i LOVE the new layout 😀
i’m so excited for my kashi cookie (well cookies, i ordered some for each of the puppies, and since they can’t have chocolate, i’ll have to take care of them haha). i’m happy to hear you liked it!
i totally hear ya about the funk. since the pilot left, i’ve been crazy busy, stressed, and exactly like you said: just going through the motions. i feel like i’m watching my life happen a lot of the time and often have to remind myself that you only get one life. i don’t want to spend it “going through the motions” and not really enjoying it.
i also had an amazing weekend, but coming back to the weekly blah has been a DRAG! just like you, i’m waiting until thanksgiving! it’s all downhill from there! hoping time will continue to fly by like it has been!!!
you’re so close to being done with school.. hang in there.
hope you have a great night!!!

I love frozen mango. I eat that stuff all the time!

I’m sorry you’re in a funk. The hamster feeling is no fun…I can certainly relate. Dorm life can be hard, especially when you are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Hang in there!

I’m glad to have you back, Sarah 🙂 I love the new blog design!

Yummy eats today – especially that Kashi cookie! I tried mine yesterday and thought it was excellente.

Re: Hamster wheel. I really wish you and I were going to the same school because I feel that way A LOT. Especially after a fun weekend, whether with family coming to visit you or you going to visit them. It just seems so…empty when the people you care about most have to go home.

Sometimes I ask myself why I go to school so far away and then I chalk it up to “oh well you need to experience other people, things, etc.” but then I think, why should I have to experience “change” if I like the way things are?! Anyway, I’m just rambling now, but I wanted to let you know that I can completely relate and a big part of me wishes it was time to be done already. But I know that once June comes, I’ll be balling my eyes out. The grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side, unfortunately.

Oh girl, I definitely feel you on your funk. I didn’t have the best college experience either. Sometimes it makes me sad to hear about how some people had the time of their life in college. Me? Not so much.

And I feel like you’re reading my mind with the hamster wheel thing!! I seriously was just thinking about this yesterday on my way to work!! I feel like every day is just the same thing, over and over. I enjoy having a routine and all, but sometimes it just gets old. I don’t want my life to be like the movie Groundhog Day!! LOL I think it’s just a matter of finding something to switch it up once in awhile.

Anyway, hang in there chica, things will brighten up. And Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. 🙂

Frozen mango is the greatest thing ever.

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a flu shot. Nor a reaction to any kind of shot like that. Doesn’t sound like much fun. 😦

Those cookies look awesome. The fact that it’s only 130 cals makes it even better! I hope they come to Canada one of these days…

Sorry to hear about your funk. I know what you mean about the crappiness of the never ending routine, especially when there is nothing to look forward to. But keep your head up! I’m sure once the school stress slows down a bit and such things will look up a bit. And if you can manage to fit it in, just try to do something completely random and fun one of these days soon, whatever the heck it might be. Just as a mood lifter.

Hi! I just read this post and you’re next one, so I’m glad you’re feeling better, but yes, I get in a funk. I was recently in one myself and complained on my own blog! One thing someone said that made me feel better was to just feel the funk. Let yourself feel like crap and then you’ll be ready to move on! Also, I agree with the people who told you to do something random. You have the freedom now in college to just do something crazy like take a trip somewhere or go somewhere around you you’ve never been.
