Busy Busy

I have to keep this brief tonight because I just got home from services and dinner and have a TON of work to do before my meeting at 10—then more work until the wee hours of the night, and up early to do it all again tomorrow. I have so much going on right now and the stress is definitely getting to me! Ahhh. Send some good vibes my way please!

Breakfast

Apple with Kashi Go Lean, Flax, and Peach Chobani. I really miss my plain yogurt (I’m not a fan at all of the fruity stuff) but unfortunately this is all thats available on campus and I haven’t had the chance to get to a real grocery store in a while. Good thing my mom is coming in a few days and she can help hook me up with some food! I see a glorious Whole Foods trip in my future…

Lunch

PB toast and (another) yogurt. I told you I’m running low on food here! 

Snack

After yoga I rushed back to my room to cram in a little reading. Of course I managed to cram in a little snack as well.

Dinner

I went to services again tonight and then dinner (once again unphotographed). Tonight we had apples/honey and challah again, plus salad, brisket, rice pilaf and of course some delicious fresh fruit for dessert. 

Now I have to get to work! Ahhh, I’m freaking out about all the work I have to do and am just stressed out and anxious in general. When I’m under stress I basically become an emotional wreck so sorry I’m not all upbeat tonight, I’m just not feeling it.

Ok, off to study.

שנה תובה

Shana Tovah guys! Happy New Year–it’s 5769!! 

Tonight started Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. Throughout college this has always been a very bittersweet time for me. Growing up I always had so much fun celebrating the holidays with my family and it’s always really hard being away from home during this time. I’m always really homesick right about now : ( At least this year I’m in the US at least–celebrating the High Holidays (Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur) in Spain last year was one of the hardest times for me and I definitely felt very lonely during those days. At least this year I am surrounded by some great friends!

Preworkout

I woke up this morning really hungry! Must have been a delayed reaction from my long run yesterday. I decided to up my pre-workout snack a little from the usual clif mini to a full sized Kashi bar. This fueled me nicely through my workout.

Breakfast

The usual cereal mix.

Lunch

Lunch was delicious today! It had lots of parts, which is my favorite way to eat–I love it when it takes me a long time to eat because I usually gulp everything down so quickly. I took my time today and loved every bite.

I had a cup of Roasted red pepper and tomato soup, some toast with hummus, an apple, and some goldfish. Yum!

Snack

I popped up some kettle corn this afternoon–best study snack ever!

After this things got hectic–I went straight to a meeting for the International Relations Honors Society then immediately to services for Rosh Hashana, then to dinner. At least the rain stopped (for now…)

Dinner

I couldn’t take pictures of dinner tonight (or tomorrow night) because it wasn’t really appropriate to pull out my camera or camera phone. Sorry! 

As per tradition, we started the meal with apples and honey in hopes for a sweet new year. Then was the delectable raisin challah. This stuff is amazing. Almost as good as my grandma’s. For the main course there was sweet bbq chicken, green beans with roasted tomatoes and garlic, and a ratatouille with veggies and beans. There was plenty of wine, but I just had a sip to say the blessing—I’m not a fan of drinking during the week. For dessert was fruit salad and the best chocolate cake! It was so rich and decadent, and I happily savored every bite, guilt free. It’s not like I indulge on cake every day and I did have to start the new year off on a sweet note!

Studious Sunday

Hi everyone! I hope you all had amazing weekends! Now it’s back to the grind. Like 99% of my Sundays during the semester, I spent the majority of the day in the library. Blech. At least I had some awesome food today to keep my going!

Breakfast

My plan was a success last night, I got cozy in my bed, read a little, and fell asleep early. It was amazing. Since I went to bed so early I was up bright and early (well early—not so bright seeing as it was STILL stormy and gloomy outside!) this morning ready to take on the day.

I was also starving when I got up and was so glad to have my favorite breakfast: overnight oats. This was the usual oats soaked with water and flax then combined with cinnamon, yogurt, and banana. This is so unbelievable, I could probably eat it for every meal and be quite content. 

Today was my first long run of my training program so Brittany (my training partner) and I pounded out 6 miles. We finished in 57:30 and felt great the whole time! It was a long run but definitely manageable, I didn’t feel like I was going to die, which is always a plus. I really have problems with pacing though, and I know that as I go longer distances I’m really going to have to work on slowing down. It’s a little scary though because although 6 miles was definitely doable, on race day I’m still going to have 20.2 MILES to go after that point. Yikes! I just need to not think about that yet, and take it one mile at a time.

Lunch

After I showered and before holing myself away in the libs I had some lunch: my leftover grilled chicken salad from last night along with the last of my Kashi crackers (mostly crumbles) and a sweet pear. Mmm mmm. Refueling is definitely the best part of running : )

Snacks

I packed up some snackies to take with me to the library: almonds and a Kashi granola bar.

Whenever I finish a task I reward myself with a little treat. I guess that makes me sort of like a dog, haha. 

Dinner

Seeing as it’s been so dreary outside I knew I needed a comforting meal for dinner. I definitely succeeded! I had a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich alongside a big bowl of Pacific Brand Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup. SO GOOD! This is one of my favorite soups, it has a little kick from the red pepper and is just so creamy, comforting, and healthy! The perfect combination. I ate this while finally watching Grey’s Anatomy…it definitely helped relieve some stress.

Dessert

Obviously my sweet tooth kicked in and I had some trail mix (the pb chips are definitely the best part!) And I plan on having the kettle corn in a little bit while I read about how economic integration influences foreign direct investment. What fun!

Tomorrow is Rosh Hashana—the Jewish New Year! I have a super busy day and will be heading over to Hillel for services and dinner tomorrow night so I won’t be able to take a picture of my dinner but I’ll let you know what we have!

Homecoming

Today was Homecoming! Too bad it stormed all. day. long. My university actually cancelled the official tailgate and although the game still took place it was just not as fun as it could have been.

Breakfast

Everyone came over the sorority house this morning for breakfast before we headed over to one of the fraternities for some pre-homecoming game fun. I had a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with a smidge of cream cheese. I hadn’t had a bagel in forever so this was really good!

Even with the rain I still had a lot of fun today. I decided to forgo the alcohol seeing as I had a lot of work to get done later but it was still a blast hanging out with everyone. We were going to grill outside but because of the rain we couldn’t. Sad! The storms did let up for a little bit so we were able to cheer on some of our sisters at the Field Hockey game and made an appearance at the Football game until it started raining again. 

Lunch

Since there ended up not being a tailgate I just waited until I got back to my room to eat lunch. I had a hummus, laughing cow, and veggie sandwich along with some carrots and a delish apple. I LOVE APPLES!

After lunch I hit up the library hard-core. It was storming so badly outside it was scary! At least there was no gorgeous weather to distract me from my work and I managed to get a lot done.

Dinner

My friend and I ordered dinner in tonight while we caught up on some TV (yayy the Office!!!) I got a grilled chicken salad (the pita was really dry so I didn’t eat it.) This was HUGE! They really packed it in–I had about half and am saving the rest for tomorrow. I love having leftovers because it’s one less thing I have to worry about tomorrow. 

Dessert

And the absolute best part of my day was this:

The place we ordered from Arlington Cafe DELIVERS FROZEN YOGURT. What a brilliant idea. This place is seriously awesome. You can choose from plain fro-yo, plain sugar free fro-yo, or frozen tofu and then seriously any mix-in imaginable (seriously–think of something and you can get it mixed in!) I chose the plain sf with strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. It was like a healthy blizzard!

I’ve mentioned this before, but I HATE the rain when I have to go outside in it, but LOVE LOVE LOVE it when I’m cozy in my room. The sound of rain is one of the most relaxing things to me. I actually use a sound machine and fall asleep to “rain” every night! I think I’ve done enough homework for a Saturday but I definitely don’t feel like venturing outside to go party it up, so I think I’m going to curl up with a book (as in fiction–not econ), read, and go to sleep early. Sounds perfect to me!

I Hate Rain

It has been rainy, windy, and all around miserable all day today. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to just curl up with a blanket, a cup of tea, and read a good book. I sort of did that today–minus the good book (unless of course you consider “Does Economic Integration Cause Foreign Direct Investment?” a good read.) Which I must admit, I sort of do : P

Breakfast

Despite going to bed around 3am I still woke up at 8 this morning. Since I had no classes or commitments today I forced myself to stay in bed and managed to doze on and off until around 10:30. This is the latest I’ve stayed in bed in AGES! 

When I finally got up I still wasn’t hungry after my splurges last night, so I did plenty of re-hydrating and finally made myself a big bowl of cereal around 11:30.

After this settled I headed to the gym to get in a nice, sweaty workout. I actually had a really good run on the treadmill today. I get really sick of the treadmill when I have to use it all the time, but every once in a while I can handle it. I was feeling really motivated, and also didn’t want to venture back out in the rain, so after my run I hit up the arc trainer for a little bit before stretching and making my way back through the torrential downpours.

Snacks

Since I had breakfast so late I didn’t really have an ‘official’ lunch but instead just snacked my way through the day while doing homework. I had a deliciously sweet apple, some popcorn, and a rice cake (which I almost forgot a picture of!)

Dinner

Another little twist of my ‘college student diet’ of pasta. This time I had it with some brussels sprouts and a Morninstar Spicy Black Bean Burger. This was a great combo–the crumbled up veggie burger made it seem like spaghetti and meatballs! Yumm!

Dessert

Even though my dinner filled me up, my sweet tooth hit HARD right after I finished eating. I indulged it with some Late July Cookies. These things are great! They are organic (and vegan!) and have such a rich dark chocolate taste. I love them! And just like I do with Oreos, I break them apart, lick the icing, and eat the cookies slowly, savoring each bite!

And now I’m snacking on a big bowl of frozen berries while watching the debate. This is definitely my favorite night-time treat!

I also had 2 of these. I forgot to take a picture and was just going to let it go but then I felt guilty depriving you guys of my true eats, haha. Then I was thinking of doing a reenactment but I knew that if I took some more out of the package to take a picture there was no way they were making it back in the bag–they would be in my tummy for sure. So I settled on a picture of the package. These are SO GOOD! They have little chocolate bits throughout. Yum yum!

Weekend!!

Happy Friday everyone! Hopefully the weather where you are is nicer than it is here—it’s rainy and cold. Boo. I really hope it clears up because tomorrow is Homecoming and tailgating in the rain does not seem like my idea of fun.

Anyway, sorry for the delayed post. Here are (some) of my eats from yesterday. 

Breakfast

I started the morning off with my new favorite breakfast—OVERNIGHT OATS. I just discovered the magic of these recently and cannot believe I waited so long to try them. They’re SO good! The night before I just combined 1/2c oats with 1 T flax and 1/2 c water. Then, in the morning I stirred in yogurt, banana and cinnamon. This is so creamy and delicious-I’m obsessed.

Lunch

I was really craving waffles after seeing pretty much everyone eating them the past few days so I mixed things up a bit and had some waffles with PB and cottage cheese before heading off to yoga.

Snack

A delicious apple.

Dinner

A huge, colorful salad with tuna and some rice cakes.

Senior Pub Night

And now the reason that I didn’t get a post up last night, and don’t have pictures of all of my food—last night was the first Senior Pub Night of the year. Basically our school rents out a club in Boston for the night and then carts off a bunch of drunk seniors in school buses back and forth. Let’s just say it’s quite a interesting night…

Before we left we headed over to one of our friends’ houses and I had 2 gin/tonics using this:

I’m such a lightweight that 2 drinks really did me in–I was definitely feeling it. I didn’t actually drink anything at the club because honestly $12/drink is OUT OF CONTROL. I’d rather save my money for more important things—-like trips to Whole Foods ; )

All in all the night wasn’t that fun. The club was just SO crowded and SO loud and the strobe lights were really getting to me. Also the music sucked. Really, clubbing just isn’t my thing. 

When we got home I was still a little buzzed and was HUNGRY. I then proceeded to drunkenly make my way through my trail mix and rice cakes, obviously not thinking about my camera. I’m really disappointed that I did this. I know that I eat really healthily the majority of the time and one night isn’t going to have any ill-effects but I just hate when I splurge on things that I don’t even enjoy. I would much rather go overboard with a delicious dinner and huge slice of cake than my mindlessly stuffing trail mix in my face without even tasting it. Boo. 

And there you have it. Today should include much less debauchery, so I’ll see you all later with some more food!

Lost Time

Today was one of those days where I totally lost track of time and before I knew it the day was over! Even though it went by really fast I feel like this morning was forever ago. Anyone else ever have days like that–that go by super fast but seem really long at the same time? It’s weird.

Preworkout

The usual clif mini pre-workout. I never get sick of these, they’re just so good, and perfect pre-exercise fuel. Definitely a good reason to get out of bed in the morning.

Breakfast

Cereal with a jumbo banana. I always feel like I have to eat cold cereal so much more than I actually want to because I hate wasting food (and money) and my milk always goes bad on me before I can use it up. Sometimes I’m craving a big bowl of cold cereal but I definitely like switching it up–I really wish they sold smaller milk cartons at my grocery store : (

Lunch

Erin reminded me the other day that everything tastes better with Laughing Cow Cheese and I have to agree. I had a delicious turkey sandwich with some laughing cow, dijon mustard, and jalapenos for some extra zip. On the side was a delicious pear, carrots, and some Glenny’s Creamy Ranch Soy Crisps. These were really good! I’m definitely a fan of Glenny’s products, I’m glad my campus sells them!

Snack

I brought some munchies to the library with me: dried edamame, almonds, and diet coke. This dried edamame is outstanding! It’s definitely my new favorite snack. This was the perfect combo of protein, fat, and caffeine and it kept me super full and energized all afternoon. It actually filled me up a little too much-before I knew it, it was 8:00 and I was still plugging away on my work. I decided to head back though to pay an exorbitant amount to do my laundry and eat some dinner.

Dinner

I wasn’t even hungry for dinner and honestly nothing was calling my name. I just kept it simple and used stuff that needed to be eaten before it goes bad (that’s definitely the hardest part about shopping for just me–food goes bad too fast and I have to eat the same things over and over and have stuff I’m not craving to avoid waste. blahhh). Anyway, I just heated up a sweet potato, topped it with ketchup and cottage cheese and rounded out the meal with some kashi crackers and leftover salad from last night.


Dessert

And obviously no night is complete without dessert: 

Frozen berries (my freezer makes them all icy! but they’re still plenty tasty!) and a strawberry chobani. 

What a perfect way to end the day.
