GUESS WHO’S BAAAACK…..
Hi everyone! I’m Sarah, a 21 year old college student. 20-something college grad/Corporate Banker I’m basically obsessed with cooking, baking, and food in general. Over the past year or so I’ve totally revamped my eating and exercise habits and have become really interested in nutrition and fitness in the process. I try to eat healthy foods the majority of the time, while still allowing myself the occasional (KEY WORD HERE—because recently has become more like CONSTANT) indulgences (ice cream, yes please!) that keep life interesting.
I really enjoy reading other food blogs, and really like the supportive community of food bloggers that has developed. I’m going to try to photographing my food choices in an effort to cut back on the mindless eating that I sometimes do, but mainly as a way to focus more on the foods I eat, how I feel eating them, and how I feel after.
Welcome to WordPress.
I like it much better than blogger, personally.

Sarah–in how much time did you manage to lose the 30 lbs…..when you started out did you incorporate more aerobics/weight training? Looking fwd to your reply!!
Saima,
It took me a little over a year to lose the weight. From the very start I combined calorie control with cardio. I exercised 5-6 days a week doing 30-60 minutes intense cardio a day. I dabbled with weight training but never did anything serious. I usually just picked a few weight machines that looked easy to figure out and played around a little. Just now I’m starting to work more with weights and am looking to gain some lean muscle. About 6 months into my weight loss I became more serious about yoga. I would do Power Yoga anywhere from 2-5 days a week. Sometimes I would do yoga instead of cardio but often I would do it in addition to it.
As much as healthy eating and calorie consciousness is important, I really think that exercise is key. Not only do I feel better mentally and physically when I work-out, but it really helps to keep me on the right track eating-wise. I definitely crave healthier foods when I’m active! I also think it’s really important to mix up the forms of exercise so that your mind and body don’t get bored. I switch it up between: running, spinning, elliptical, stationary bike, and yoga—doing whichever my body feels like that day. I’ll keep you posted if a weight-training routine develops-I just need to get my act together!
great blog! question: how did you work up to running so much- is it just a mental thing because i run basically on a treadmill- 3 miles 4 times a week, and it’s hard because maybe it’s boring or i’m just slow.. =( hahha i wanna break 10 minute miles and hopefully do a marathon in the future! =D i like your pictures..and good luck with running- do you recommend the polar heart rate monitor over the garmin?
Tra,
It took me a long time to work up to running as I am now. It just takes patience and gradually building up time and speed. I like running outside more than on the treadmill because I like feeling like I’m actually GOING somewhere. I definitely get bored on the treadmill but have to do it when the weather isn’t great, and actually sometimes enjoy it for working on speed and interval training.
I’m really not the best person to ask about HRM—I didn’t do much research and just saw this one (Polar F6) on some other blogs and the bloggers seemed to like it so I just trusted their opinion and went for it. I’m sure if you went into a specialty sports store they could help you find something that works best for you.
Thanks for reading!
i love your blog and your body is amazing! I was just wondering how many calories you aim for a day? And could you share your height/weight? If not i understand
thanks april! i’m 5’2 (a shortie!) but would rather not say my weight (sorry!) I aim for around 1700-1900 calories a day but it obviously depends on how active/hungry/stressed I am so sometimes I eat more and sometimes it’s less. I like to think it all balances out in the end though.
I love your blog! I also saw that you go to Tuft it seems? I’m originally from Cambridge. I also saw that you were in Israel this summer and I was too I loved it! Anyways keep up the blogging!
